Glass Beads!

On June 23, 2018 at a special Saturday Workshop with a few of our instructors some of us learned the very basics for making our own glass beads! It was great even though I would give this a difficulty rating of 4.5 on a 1 to 5 scale. With the big blow torch burning while both hands need to be multitasking almost the whole time along with trying to keep temperatures of both the glass and the stick that you are wrapping the glass around! I also got a bit of a science lesson on the different types of glass and the fact that they have different melting points and so some need an acetylene torch, we were using a butane, to get it hot enough to melt. A few of us really grasped the concept well and pretty easily so we are looking forward to when we can put this new skill to use as it rocks. The bead pictured below is the second one I made which had 2 colors of glass and I put a spiral indentation into it while it was still hot. This is super exciting and I can’t wait to try it again so I can start putting out some handmade glass bead jewelry!
